Sample Letter:
I would like to bring to your attention a growing movement toward alimony reform http://njalimonyreform.org/. I am asking you to consider sponsoring alimony reform legislation in New Jersey. Our state has alimony laws that are among the harshest in our country.
(tell a brief overview of your story). A good example of one of our members story is:
I was married at 20 years old and divorced 16 years later at 36, my ex-wife was also 36 when we divorced. The judge ordered that I pay my ex-wife $28,000 a year in alimony and even though my ex-wife was only 36 years old and was a teacher, she was not required to work. I am now 63 years old and I continue to pay my ex-wife $28,000. a year. I have been paying alimony for 26 years for a marriage that only lasted 16, of the 26 years that I have been paying alimony, my ex-wife has lived with her boyfriend for the last 15. If we don't have alimony reform, I will have to continue to pay alimony until I die.
